We are the Cedar Rapids Roller Girls!
Our league was started in February, 2008 by Motley Cruel from Bleeding Heartland Rollergirls out of Indiana. Our league is made up of women ranging from their 20’s
to mid 40’s and come in all shapes and sizes. We are the girls next door and truly
represent a broad spectrum of women who are attracted to the fun and full-contact sport of roller derby. Derby is a sport that involves agility, endurance and all around athletic ability.
Most of our home bouts are held at the U.S. Cellular Center which we are proud to call home! To get your tickets to our bouts, get to any Ticketmaster location or the U.S. Cellular Center Box Office. Come check us out and support your local Cedar Rapids Roller Girls!
Our league members are all unpaid, amateur skaters who not only practice and bout, but do ALL of the work keeping our league running. We buy our own gear, uniforms and pay monthly dues. All of our coaches, refs, announcers and support staff are also unpaid. They do it for the love of the sport. In addition to playing the sport, all league members help out on the many committees that keep us running. The CRRG board and committees are some of the hardest working groups of girls in Cedar Rapids! Thanks so much to all our derby dames who put in so much time and effort to make sure things get done!
Like many other leagues, CRRG donates time and money to local charities and volunteers at many events and fundraisers.
Our bouts are also kid / family friendly, with playful adult overtones. We work hard to project a positive, athletic (yet playful) image to influence and empower youth. We’re such an incredibly diverse group of athletes with vastly different body types; this is a great way to teach kids that anyone can be physically active and find a place to fit in. While we do occasionally get riled up in the heat of the moment, the rules of Roller Derby make fights pretty rare.
